Nessie, Where Were You?

We boarded the Rebel with spirits so high,
The sun on the loch made the water gleam bright.
To Urquhart we sailed ‘neath a clear blue sky,
But Nessie stayed hidden, far from our sight.

The warmth on my face could not soothe the blow,
As I searched every sparkle and sunlit crest.
I longed for a sighting, a sign down below—
Just one little ripple would do at best.

I clutched my hopes like a tourist map,
Eyes fixed on the waves, not daring to blink.
But no giant neck, no tail, no slap—
Just sunshine and seagulls and deep, cold drink.

Now back on the shore with no tale to tell,
No photo, no proof, no monster delight.
Yet I’ll keep believing, and wish her well—
That shy queen of Ness, still hidden from sight.
